The Academy District Twenty Education Foundation believes in supporting its entire community. The Foundation contributes to an exchange program to enrich our students and create well-rounded citizens by exposing them to other cultures (the China Exchange Program.) We have also supported families and individuals impacted by the Black Forest Fire. Please see the links below for additional information on our community involvement.
Annual D20 Foundation Golf Tournament
The foundation’s only way to gather resources is through fundraising and contributions. The revenue is used for student scholarships, grants for teachers, awards for outstanding district educators, staff members, volunteers, and sponsorship of educational speakers for staff. The foundation is committed to enhancing educational opportunities for elementary and secondary students and staff.
The annual golf scramble, held in August each year, is a major resource for the foundation to meet these goals. Thank you to all of our sponsors for your support of the our community!
China Exchange
The China Exchange program was established in 2012, and we welcomed the first Chinese students to District 20 in the winter of 2013. More than 25 District 20 families hosted the visiting students and their faculty chaperones. In October 2014 the first District 20 students traveled to China where the students and faculty visited three different schools and stayed in the homes of Chinese students. The American and Chinese students shared academic classes, arts classes, and even some meal preparations together. The entire group traveled to Shanghai and Beijing, seeing many important historic sites. In 2014 the second District 20 student group traveled to Shanghai, Xian, Nantong, and Beijing.
In the winter of 2018 District 20 will welcome another group of students from Nantong High School. Plans are underway for a third trip to China in the fall of 2018. No trip to China is complete without a hike on the Great Wall or a walk through crowded marketplaces, tasting new foods along the way.
The purpose for establishing the exchange program was to open opportunity for District 20 students to grow in the area of global citizenry. Understanding comes through shared experience. The Enrichment Office is very grateful for the continued support the Academy Foundation has provided in the form of student scholarships for the China Exchange.
Black Forest Fire
As part of its support to the students and staff members of D20 who are victims of the Black Forest fire, the foundation established the Black Forest Fire Support Fund. The Foundation partnered with a local business, Salsa Brava, and the fund was used to support education-related expenses of Academy District 20 students and staff members affected by the fire.
The Foundation pledged the entire proceeds from the 2013 annual fundraiser golf tournament to Edith Wolford Elementary to help enhance their playground.
The Foundation began the effort by giving each of the thirteen D20 staff members who lost their homes in the fire $500 to aid with initial expenses.
